The Search for the Perfectly Inexpensive Dress
Alright, it’s your friendly poor bride posting again. I’ve been so busy trying to wrap my head around all these prices. Let me just say that my budget isn’t working out quite how I planned. I started at $6000 and have managed to somehow inch my way up to $7500. Now I am going through the horrible task of cutting things out that I really can’t afford.
So, I already bought my wedding dress and I felt that I should explain to you how I saved a pile. See, there is a trick to getting a deal on your dress. In fact, there are steps you should take in order to find the perfect dress at an even better price.
A lot of people will tell you not to buy your dress online and in theory they are right. But now the loophole to this equation is that you can purchase a dress online that you’ve found in a bridal shop for a fraction of the price. So head to a bridal shop (I recommend a few) try on dresses just as if you were planning on purchasing the dress at the shop. Once you’ve found your dream dress, head to a seamstress and get your measurements. This is very important because only a seamstress knows how to properly fit you for your wedding dress. Once you’ve gotten all of this done go home to your computer and start searching for your dress. I suggest eBay, houseofbrides.com or bestbridalprices.com. They’ve all got great designer dresses at a fraction of the bridal store prices.
If you have found what your looking for on eBay you’ll have to do your homework before actually purchasing the dress.
- Make sure that the seller has excellent feedback, you don’t need your dream dress to become your worst nightmare.
- Send your measurements to the seller to make sure she agrees with the size you plan to purchase. This will save the whole “it’s not my fault you ordered the wrong size” argument.
- Check out the return policy as well as shipping and handling charges. You’ll have to factor this into the final price to make sure it will still cost less than buying from a boutique.
- DO NOT BUY FROM CHINA (or any other Asian country) Most of these dresses are actually designer knock-offs and not actually the real deal. The dress will be of inferior quality and you don’t want that.
- Always pay with PAYPAL and make sure to save all emails to and from your seller so that you have backup if you need to file a claim with eBay or paypal. Also, make sure your seller is verified. This will allow you to file a claim if something goes wrong.
- NEVER ever, ever pay with Western Union or an equivalent. Nothing can be done if something goes wrong with the transaction.
Follow these rules when looking for a dress online and you’ll save a huge chunk of your budget and still manage to look superb on your big day.
